The Tempest at the Utah Shakespearean Festival
"We adapted Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings and made EZScreenPrint Stencils. On a large padded table, we printed the designs onto the coarse woven wool with Jacquard Ink. When the printing was completed, we heat set the designs and tailored the coat. The lining of the coat was printed with drawings as well, indicating that Prosporo used every inch available to record his ideas and inventions. When completed, the coat was airbrushed to create a sense of age and wear.
For the "tattoo suits", we traced the pattern on sheer stretch fabric that was dyed to match the actor's skin tone and then printed the designs. I used two colors of ink and offset the design for the second printing. From the stage, the effect was very convincing.
The designs were so popular that the costume shop staff made tee-shirts for themselves and their friends after the show opened. I also created a line of silk scarves based on the designs that sold in the theatre gift shop."
