Making an PhotoEZ Stencil
Detailed instructions included in PhotoEZ packaging
Create and print your artwork. Use an ink jet or laser printer set on best print and/or heavy ink. For best quality use transparency film. Or, Wal-Mart carries a 20 lb/88 brightness paper that will work. Do not use heavier paper like 92/96 brightness or higher, it will block the UV from burning the stencil.
Center artwork on the clear part of the exposure frame.

Peel clear protective backing from PhotoEZ. Disgard clean backing.

Place PhotoEZ on artwork, shinny side down.

Add black felt board.

Add Clips. Clear board, black felt board and clips are included in the PhotoEZ Starter Kit.

Turnover and place a black Foamie on exposure unit. A piece of cardboard or towel will work too. Keep the exposure unit covered until ready to expose.

Expose to direct sunlight for 1 minute (+/- 10 seconds) with transparency film, and 5 minutes (+/- 1 minute) with paper.
Temperature does not matter; however, summer months may take less time to expose than winter months. Exposure time may vary per location, time of day, etc.
Be sure to test exposure time with the small test pieces that comes with every PhotoEZ pack.

Soak in tap water for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Use a plastic canvas to support the PhotoEZ stencil during rinsing. Rinse with cold or lukewarm tap water. A kitchen sprayer works great.

If needed use a soft brush to remove excess residue. Be sure all the emulsion residue is completely rinsed off, otherwise the ink will not go through the silkscreen.
Typically, the emulsion should melt away with just rinsing and light brushing. If you need repeated brushing because the emulsion residue is not coming off then it may be due to your artwork. If the black toner or cartridge ink is not very black or opaque it will cause the emulsion from not rinsing off properly. Be certain that you set your printer to best print and/or heavy ink. Also, be sure you are not running low on printer ink.

Harden & dry in sunlight. This process makes the stencil durable and last longer.

If it's windy place weights on the stencil like these tiles from a hardware store. Rotate the tiles so the stencil hardens evenly.
