Meet Deidre Chestney: The Graphic Designer Turned Ceramic Artist

Deidre Chestney’s artistic journey began with a love for surface decoration in ceramics, shaped by her background in Graphic Design. After studying Visual Communication Design in Wellington, New Zealand, she worked in several cities worldwide before settling in Central Victoria.

When her daughter began school, Deidre discovered pottery and instantly fell in love with clay. Ten years later, she’s focused on slip transfer techniques, and EZScreenPrint's kits and stencils have allowed her to bring fine line graphics, like maps, text, and illustrations, onto her sculptural ceramics. Deidre uses the EZScreen stencils to print things like maps, lines, lyrics, and drawings onto a paper, and then transfers them onto her pottery. Inspired by folk art, nature, and ‘80s song lyrics, Deidre creates beautifully illustrated vessels, sculptures, and wall pieces.
