Making A Shirt While in Hawaii Based on my Childhood Adventures :)

Hey there, crafting enthusiasts! 🌅

I recently had the most amazing time visiting my aunt and uncle in Hawaii, and I couldn't resist capturing the breathtaking beach scene near their home. With the time difference, I found myself wide awake before sunrise, so I decided to sketch out the serene scene and turn it into a wearable memory.

Early Morning Creativity

As the sun began to peek over the horizon (gotta love that time difference), I grabbed a piece of paper and started sketching the beach view. Inspired by the tranquility of the morning, I drew the design onto regular paper and then used my trusty Tesquio markers to trace it onto an inkjet transparency.

Turning Art into a Stencil

Once the sun was shining a bit brighter, I took the transparency and placed a blank EZScreen on top, and then clipped them both into my exposure unit. I let the unit bask in the Hawaiian sun for just 60 seconds—yes, it’s that quick so don't leave it too long!

Rinsing and Printing

I forgot to film myself rinsing out the stencil (oops!), but all it took was a little soak (10ish minutes, and make sure there's no sunlight!) and a quick rinse in the sink to wash away the parts of the design covered by the transparency. After that, I was ready to print!

Bringing the Design to Life

Using a white fabric ink, I printed the design onto a t-shirt. Printing with these stencils is a breeze: drop the ink on, use a squeegee to push it through the stencil, and then gently peel the stencil away to reveal your design. Voilà! I also used a plastic frame (included in the plus kits) It's not necessary if you are just printing one shirt at a time, but can be handy if you are printing multiple shirts.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

This project was extra special because it reminded me of the wonderful times I had visiting my grandparents in Hawaii as a child. Their home was filled with so much love and fun, and it was fun to make this shirt based on the view from their home.

Sharing the Aloha

Since the stencil is reusable, I made a few extra souvenir shirts for my cousins who were with me. They loved it, and it felt great to share a piece of our Hawaiian adventure with them.
